Speak Justice March

Writer: tltapp@cox.nettltapp@cox.net

On Sunday June 7th over 200 people braved tropical storm Cristobal to march from Fort Walton Beach City Hall to Liza Jackson Park. Organizer Sonya Vazquez attended church with George Floyd and his family in North Carolina, and was moved to create an event that not only honored him and other victims of police brutality, but also called people to action to stop the violence. There were prayers, music, spoken word, and speeches by local elected officials and members of the community. Many people emphasized the importance of voting, and using our voices (especially white allies) to speak up when we see racism. Okaloosa Democrats registered 13 people to vote and signed 49 people up for vote-by-mail. Mrs. Vazquez is working on another event. We will keep you posted!
